Product Description
This spectacular vintage brooch features a pietra dura floral design. The brooch has a black onyx background with sliced tiles which are inlaid in a pretty white, green and rust flower design. The inlay on this piece appears to be chalcedony, malachite, agate and mother of pearl and other gemstones set in onyx. Setting is 800 silver with a rolled edge around the bezel setting. Size is 7/8" x 1 1/6".
Pietra dura is a term which literally means "hard stone." This type type of mosaic was originally produced in Florence during the Renaissance period and continues to today. Since this brooch has a safety locking C clasp, it can be dated after 1901.
The brooch is marked 800 and has a bale for hanging from a chain. (Chain not included.)
