Nielloware Enamel Jewelry
Japan, Siam and Thai Enameling at its Finest
Niello is a black metallic alloy of sulfur, copper, silver, and usually lead, used as an inlay on engraved metal. It can be used for filling in designs cut from metal. Nielloware jewelry from Thailand (after 1939) and Siam (pre 1939) were popular gifts from American soldiers stationed there during the 1920s to the 1970s. Most of it was completely handmade jewelry. Many of the designs feature the traditional Temple dancers or Goddesses, but many other styles were also used. Browse though our lovely selection of Nielloware vintage brooches, bracelets, earrings, necklaces and sets. There are designs for all tastes and budgets.
